Today is the day we first heard “STELLA!!!” wailed.
It was opening night on Broadway for Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire. The year was 1947. Sometimes I play the game of “Would I have liked to have been there then?” The answer for this event is a “YES!!!” as big as Stanley Kowalski’s “STELLA!!!”
It was another opening night in 1960; this time for Camelot. Sing! “The rain must never fall till after sundown.”
Let’s keep singing for another opening night. The year was 1953 and the show was the exquisite Kismet. “Take my hand; I’m a stranger in paradise.”
In a different medium, today in 1950 marked the beginning of Paul Harvey’s national radio broadcast.

The Beatles’ “Rubber Soul” was released in 1965. I was there for that!
One of my very favorite writers was born today in 1857. Joseph Conrad gave us LORD JIM, HEART OF DARKNESS, THE SECRET AGENT and NOSTROMO. I’m always amazed when writer writes well in his/her second language. English was actually Mr. Conrad’s third language. Wow!
One of my favorite film composers, Nino Rota, was born today in 1911. Mr. Rota gave us the beautiful scores for The Godfather and La Strada.

I kinda like neon signs, so let’s make today’s recipe be for a;
Neon Cocktail
1 oz. Citron Vodka
1 oz. Blue Curacao Liqueur
1 oz. Lime Juice
1 splash Pineapple Juice
Shake ingredients together with ice.
Strain into a cocktail glass.
“And now you know the rest of the story!”
