Macho Man Cocktail

1 ½ oz. Grays Peak Vodka

1 ½ oz. Ron Diaz Rum

3 oz. Coca Cola

Pour the Coca Cola (or root beer for Miss Elizabeth) into a highball glass.

Add the vodka and rum.

Oooh yeah!

There are other things to celebrate today.

–          It’s America Recycles Day. Make it so.

–          Today in 1806, Lieutenant Zebulon Pike saw a distant mountain peak while near the Colorado foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is later renamed Pike’s Peak, which sounds ever so much better than Zeb’s Knob.

–          Dave Thomas opened the first Wendy’s Restaurant today in Columbus, Ohio. The year? 1969.

And we have other interesting birthdays.

–          The author of EMPIRE OF THE SUN and CRASH was born today in 1930. J. G. Ballard, as unsettling as his work can be, is one of my favorite writers.

–          Today is also the birthday of artist Georgia O’Keeffe in 1887.

–          It’s another big day for actors. Mary Tyler Moore’s best boss, Ed Asner (1929), James Bond nemesis Yaphet Kotto (1937), fierce prosecutor Sam Waterston (1940), and “Downtown” singer/actor Petula Clark (1932) were all born today.

(sing) “DOWNTOWN! You’re gonna be alright now.”
