The King of the Jukebox!

The not so friendly skies…

Today in 1947 a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) crash-landed in Roswell, New Mexico. So we’re told. It wasn’t me, I assure you. I had not been born.

It also wasn’t a zeppelin, though it could have been. Ferdinand von Zeppelin was born today in 1838. Would Monty Python have been possible without him?

Our quote of the day comes from the King of the Jukebox.

That would be the energetic and talented Louis Jordan, born this day in 1908. After Duke Ellington and Count Basie, Mr. Jordan was probably the most successful African-American bandleader of his day – and with good reason. His recordings are sharp and instantly engaging. My day is automatically brighter when I hear one of his tunes. I wonder how many of today’s rap artists look back at Mr. Jordan’s work for inspiration. His recordings of songs like “Knock Me a Kiss”, “Saturday Night Fish Fry”, “Caldonia”, and “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” are classics. I’m thinkin’ if Mr. Jordan was playing in Roswell today in 1947, it would have been reported as a sighting of an LFO (Low-Flying Object).

Mr. Jordan’s bold statement; “The only people who make love all the time are liars.”
