Smile!

Charles Graham patented false teeth today in 1822.

The hits just keep on comin’

–          The number one hit on the pop charts today in 1958 was Sheb Wooley’s  otherworldly rendition of “Purple People Eater”. Sing it! “It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin’ purple people eater…”

–          Today in 1901, the New York Giants pounded the Cincinnati Reds for a record 31 hits, defeating them 25-13. No, I was not pitching that day.

My favorite duck’s career began today.

That would be Donald, of course, though his Uncle Scrooge McDuck would be a close second. But today is Donald’s day: he made his debut today in 1934 in “The Wise Little Hen”. Inexplicably, this piece never seems to make any of the “Best 100” lists.

Closer to home;

Kentucky’s own Johnny Depp was born today in 1963. I’m a big fan of Mr. Depp’s performances in the films “Sweeny Todd”, “Chocolat”, “Ed Wood”, and “Edward Scissorhands”.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

Master songwriter Cole Porter was born today in 1891. Mr. Porter protested in one of his most famous songs; “I get no kick from champagne”. Well, that seems a shame.

Champagne Cocktail

1 cube Sugar

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Champagne

Soak sugar cube in the bitters and place in bottom of a large champagne flute.

Slowly fill with champagne.

Garnish with a twist of lemon.

Sing! “I get a kick out of you!”

Cheers!
