Doctor Dan & the Space Cowboys!

It sounds like a fine sci-fi/western flick, but  no, guess again.

Mighty congratulations are in order for Drs. Dan and Roni Crocker of Crocker Farm Winery in Franklin, Kentucky. The precinct that is home to the winery voted Tuesday to allow wine sales at the winery. I’m told the winery/store should open this summer and there will be Kentucky wines, Kentucky foods, and Kentucky Space Cowboys to mark the event.

When I grow up, I wanna be a Kentucky Space Cowboy. I wonder…do you get decoder ring?

How many nuclear scientists does it take to change a light bulb?

I do not know precisely, but there’s a clue in today’s history.

Today in 1951, the “EBR-1” in Arco, Idaho, became the first nuclear power plant to generate electricity. The electricity produced powered four – count ‘em! – four light bulbs.

Songwriter Paul Francis Webster was born today in 1907. Mr. Webster gave us “The Shadow of Your Smile”, “I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good”, the lyrics to one of my favorite Hoagy Carmichael tunes; “Baltimore Oriole”, and the theme song for television’s Maverick. I thought Maverick was pretty cool – practically a Space Cowboy. We’ll toast Mr. Webster with a;

Maverick Cocktail

1 ½ oz. Opulent Vodka

½ oz. Triple Sec

½ oz. Amaretto

1 oz. Pineapple Juice

2 tsp. Galliano

Shake ingredients with ice.

Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

What’s that you’ve got up your sleeve there, podner?
