Thank You Bowling Green!

For a great opening day!

The newest and prettiest Barn on the planet opened this morning in Bowling Green. The weather was perfect, the crowd was large and enthusiastic. John and Jeanette and a very dedicated Bowling Green crew presented their store to Bowling Green for the first time. It was pretty special and the Zombie Dust and the Pappy disappeared quickly. (If you were there you would comprehend what I just said).

It’s hard to believe…

…but something even more important happened today in 1955. In Montgomery, Alabama, seamstress Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man and was arrested for violating the city’s racial segregation laws. From one person’s weary and indignant refusal to be made smaller than the human being she was, much good has come. I’ll be celebrating that moment.

There are even more reasons to celebrate today.

It’s Self-Governance Day in Iceland! We’ll celebrate with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and an Icelandic fresh filet.

Or we could have a Dr. Pepper instead. The first serving of the soft drink happened today in 1885 at a drug store in Waco, Texas.

Today in 1990, Channel Tunnel sections started from the United Kingdom and France met 40 meters beneath the seabed.

Today’s birthdays of interest;

–          Baseball gives us two sluggers; George Foster (1948) and Larry Walker (1966), and a great manager; Walter Alston (1911).

–          Popular music gives us the very smooth Lou Rawls (1933) and the very outrageous Bette Midler (1945).

–          Comedians Richard Pryor (1940) and Woody Allen (1935) share this birthday.

–          All our birthday folks could be rendered in wax likenesses thanks to Marie Tussaud. Madame Tussaud was born today in 1761.

Drink 4cast 4 2day.

Actor/singer Mary Martin was born today in 1913. Ms. Martin was the definitive Peter Pan of her day. You simply had to boo any Captain Hook that messed with Mary!

We’ll celebrate her birthday with a;

Peter Pan Cocktail

¾ oz. Dry Vermouth

¾ oz. Royal James Gin

¾ oz. Orange Juice

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Shake all ingredients with ice.

Strain into a cocktail glass and serve.

“Just think of lovely things.””

Cheers!

Roger
