I Got the Horse Right Here!

Today in 1894, The Daily Racing Form was founded. I’ll give you three-to-one Damon Runyan began writing Guys and Dolls the very next day.

Here’s the guy to blame for it all…

Today in 1979, on a flight to Austin, Daniel Okrent sketched out the first draft rules for Rotisserie Baseball. Musta been a lousy inflight movie…maybe Heidi?

“If you could read my mind…”

Today is the birthday of Gordon Lightfoot in 1938.

It’s one many interesting natal days today.

What else happened today?

On the subject of vampires, today in 2008, the vampire romance movie Twilight premiered in Los Angeles.

Today in 1820 Captain Nathaniel Palmer became the first American to see Antarctica. The Palmer Peninsula was later named after him.

Today is International Students’ Day. Let’s give ‘em a day off from school. Oh, wait. It’s Saturday.

Now for today’s big news and our Drink 4cast 4 2day;

Today in 1968, NBC outraged football fans (and I’m told there are several) by cutting away from the final minutes of a game to air a television special, Heidi on time. I understand the pique. Now, if it had been for A Charlie Brown Christmas or a 24-hour Christmas Story marathon, or Shark Week, I’m sure they wouldn’t have heard a peep of protest. Let’s toast the uproar with a;

Heidi’s Comet Cocktail

2 oz. Amaretto

2 oz. Grays Peak Vodka

2 oz. Apple Cider

1 Cinnamon Stick

Pour all the ingredients into a mixing glass and stir well.

Pour into a cocktail glass.

Add the cinnamon stick and serve.

“…what tale my thoughts would tell.”
