I Can’t Even Spell IMDB!

All kinds of interesting things happened today.

–          The International Movie Database (IMDb) was created today in 1990. Before that, I was the source for all movie info. What I didn’t know…I made up! That would have made it the “I Made Up Database” (IMUDb). You’re probably better off now.

–          “The Colbert Report” premiered on the Comedy Channel today in 2005.

–          On this day in 1931, Al Capone was convicted of income tax evasion. Today, he would have a TV show giving advice on that topic…or running for office.

–          Today in 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She’s the one that shoulda had the TV show.

–          In 1771, today marked the premiere of the opera “Ascanio in Alba”, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He was 15 years old at the time. At 15, I was trying to master the Kentucky Driver’s Manual.

AND…it’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. We keep trying…

Whoa! Look at all the birthdays.

–          Many actors born today; Irene Ryan (1902), Montgomery Clift (1920), Superman’s girlfriend Margot Kidder (1948), Rita Hayworth (1918) and scream queen Beverly Garland (1926). Also, George Wendt was born today in 1948. Mr. Wendt is best known as Norm in the television show, “Cheers”.

–          Singers Alan Jackson (1958) and Gary Puckett (1942) share this birthday. For ever-so-many years I thought Mr. Puckett’s last name was “Puckettandtheuniongap”.

–          Jazz guitarist Barney Kessel (1923) was born today, as was playwright Arthur Miller (1915). Mr. Miller taught us that “Attention must be paid!” in his “Death of a Salesman”.
