It’s Oompa Loompa Day!

But first!

On this day in 1609, Henry Hudson reached…wait for it…the Hudson River. It’s as if he knew!

It’s a big day for singers.

–          Peruvian singer Yma Sumac was born today in 1922. Ms. Sumac could sing so high that some of her notes are mere rumors and scientific measurements.

–          Blood, Sweat & Tears singer David Clayton-Thomas was born today in 1941. Sing! “What goes up must come down”

–          The Velvet Fog, jazz crooner Mel Torme was born today in 1925.

–          Several actors share this birthday; Jacqueline Bisset in 1944 (my favorite of her performances was in Francois Truffault’s Day for Night), Claudette Colbert in 1903 (It Happened One Night), and Richard Kiel in 1939. You will, of course, remember Mr. Kiel for his nuanced portrayal of the much misunderstood character “Jaws” of the James Bond films.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

Another birthday boy inspires today’s drink recipe. Writer Roald Dahl was born today in 1916. Mr. Dahl blessed us with CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, which introduced us all to the remarkable Willie Wonka. Let’s celebrate that with a;

Chocolate Martini

1 ½ oz. Godiva Chocolate Liqueur

1 ½ oz. Half-and-Half

1 oz Crème de Cacao

½ oz. Opulent Vodka

Chocolate Syrup

Pour chocolate syrup into the bottom of a martini glass to cover and coat rim in chocolate syrup.

Chill the glass.

Add (in this order) chocolate liqueur, crème de cacao, vodka and half-and-half.

“The suspense is terrible…I hope it continues!”
