“There’s Nothing to Be Scared About…”

…honest and truly there’s not!”

That’s what they told Mia Farrow in the film “Rosemary’s Baby”. Well…honest and truly there was!

Ira Levin wrote the terrifying novel on which the film was based. Mr. Levin was born today in 1929.

The Prez was born today!

That would be saxophonist Lester Young (1909). I love Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, Eric Dolphy, and Johnny Hodges as much as the next guy, but my desert island sax player would have to be Mr. Young.

His playing is like a slalom skier; headstrong, fast, and reckless at the beginning, threatening to topple into chaos and physical hurt at any moment. Control is established and the reckless becomes exhilerating and the physical hurt evolves into a delicious pain of the heart; a longing for something certainly out of reach and perhaps only imagined. Prez could play.

Edgar Rice Burrough’s TARZAN OF THE APES was published today in 1912. Kreegah! Bundolo!! Indeed.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

I’m goin’ back to Ira Levin and ROSEMARY’S BABY for today’s refreshment. This was the cocktail served to Ms. Farrow at her housewarming party at the Dakota.

Vodka Blush

2 ½ oz. Grays Peak Vodka

¾ oz. Lime Juice

1 dash Grenadine

Fill shaker 2/3 with ice.

Add ingredients.

Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

As Rosemary critiqued; “It has a taste…a chalky undertaste.”
