It’s Joe Nuxhall Day!

Just because I say so!

Today in 1944 Joe Nuxhall of the Cincinnati Reds became the youngest player ever in a Major League game. He was 15 years old. I wonder who drove him to the game.

“I’ll String Along With You”

That’s what songwriter Al Dubin promised us in his song of the same name.

Mr. Dubin wrote approximately one gazillion songs including; “I Only Have Eyes for You”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”, and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”.

Mr. Dubin was born today in 1891.

Blues singer, guitarist, and harmonica player Howlin’ Wolf was born today in 1910. Mr. Wolf expanded our vocabulary to include “Wang Dang Doodle” and made us pay attention to the “Moanin’ at Midnight”. We’ll celebrate his day of birth with a;

Howlin’ Wolf Cocktail

½ oz. Crème de Menthe White

1 oz. Blue Curacao

½ oz. Opulent Vodka

Sprite

Pour crème de menthe, vodka, and curacao into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake and strain into a highball glass filled with ice.

Top up with sprite.

Sing! “The hip-hooray and ballyhoo – the lullaby of Broadway…”

Cheers!
