A Day for Singers!

But then, what day isn’t?

Tonight at 6:00, in the Singletary Center at the University of Kentucky, “Prelude” begins. Prelude is an event unlike any other on Kentucky’s calendar. The finest voices in the state and region will be singing show music everywhere in the building. Patrons will enjoy sampling about 30 wines, spirits, and beers and mingling with the performers from this year’s 20th anniversary performance of “Grand Night for Singing”.

The silent and live auction that happens throughout the evening will feature several “nowhere else” opportunities.

–          A “Phantom of the Opera” package of tickets, backstage tours, and pictures with the cast for UK Opera’s production of “Phantom” at Lexington’s Opera House next fall.

–          Travel packages to UK Basketball away games with the team on the team plane! There’s a package for the men’s team and the women’s team as well.

–          A 20-year-in-the-making collection of special issue Makers Mark bottles featuring bottles signed by Bill Samuels, bottles honoring Rich Brooks, John Calipari, Tim Couch, and the Untouchables, and the bottles in alternating red and blue wax commemorating Rick Pitino’s return to Rupp Arena as the coach of the University of Louisville. The purchaser of this item will instantly have an enviable assemblage of these Kentucky treasures.

BUT it is all about the singers today. The proceeds of tonight’s event go to advance the efforts of Dr. Everett McCorvey and the world class voice program at UK.

Come join us and enjoy your singers!

Another “singer” of note today;

Today in 1962, Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy. Hoo boy!

Drink 4cast 4 today

Didja ever wonder where “melba toast” came from? Well, probably not.

Dame Nellie Melba was born today in 1861. Dame Melba was an operatic soprano from Australia. She built a remarkable singing career on three continents. The French chef Auguste Escoffier created Melba Toast and Peach Melba in her honor.

We shall have a;

Brandy Melba Cocktail

2 oz. Brandy

½ oz. Peach Brandy

½ oz. Raspberry Liqueur

½ oz. Lemon Juice

4 dashes Angostura Bitters

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.

Stir and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Add crushed ice.

Warble away!

Cheers!

Roger
