Take a Bow…Take Two!

First, you need a theater.

Today in 1883, the first vaudeville theater opened in Boston.

The term “vaudeville”, however, has local connections. The term came into common usage after 1871 with the formation of Sargent’s Great Vaudeville Company of Louisville, Kentucky. No, I never performed there, though I was a season ticketholder.

Then we need players!

–          Zero Mostel was born today in 1915. Mr. Mostel should certainly take multiple bows for his performances in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “Fiddler on the Roof”.

–          The completely charming Bernadette Peters was born today in 1948. Ms. Peters may take as many bows as she wishes for giving us her performances in “Sunday in the Park With George”, “Mack and Mabel”, and “Into the Woods”.

Speaking of “players”…

I know basketball star Tayshaun Prince’s “stage” doesn’t fit today’s theme, but he’s a pride of Kentucky and his birthday should not pass unnoticed. Mr. Prince was born today in 1980.

Shake with crushed ice.

And sing! “There’s no business like show business!”
