A Day for Weird Things!

Weird Thing #1

Today in 1979, snow fell in the Sahara Desert in southern Algeria for the only time in recorded history. Bread and milk disappeared from market shelves and school was cancelled.

Weird Thing #2

Pedro Lascurain became president of Mexico today in 1913. His term in office lasted 45 minutes. To date, this is the shortest term of any person as president of any country. Talk about term limits!

Weird Thing #3

Today in 1930 Elm Farm Ollie became the first cow to fly in a fixed-wing aircraft and also the first cow to be milked in an aircraft. Human (and bovine) accomplishment is clearly unlimited and inspiring…and sometimes happily aimless.

It’s a big day for people of letters.

–          Greek writer, Nikos Kazantzakis was born today in 1883. This is one of my favorite writers. I highly recommend his ZORBA THE GREEK, THE GREEK PASSION, REPORT TO GRECO, and THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST.

–          Today in 1957, Vanna White, letter-turner deluxe was born.
