I Left My Heart…

…in San Francisco.

“Where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.”

And so they have since today in 1912. That was the day the first municipally-owned streetcars took to the streets in “that city by the bay”.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

Janie and I have sat a number of times at the Buena Vista Bar, having breakfast, watching the streetcars of San Francisco begin their day with Sausalito, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background while we planned another day in our favorite major city. We could celebrate that with an Irish Coffee (the Buena Vista claims to have invented it), but instead, let’s have a;

Streetcar Cocktail

2 oz. Hancock’s Bourbon

½ oz. Crème de Cassis

1 dash Vanilla Sweetwater

1 splash Lime Juice

1 tsp. Blueberry Compote

Blueberries for garnish

Combine all ingredients with ice in a shaker.

Shake well and strain into a martini glass.

Garnish with blueberries.

Sing it! “The morning fog may chill the air…I don’t care!”

Two birthdays of interest;

–          Today in 1903, jazz piano master Earl “Fatha” Hines was born. I never heard Mr. Hines play “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, but if he did, it wouldn’t need to be played by anyone else.

–          Leaping Lanny Poffo, professional wrestler and serious limerick writer was born today in 1954.

Get ready to rum-m-m-m-ble!

Cheers!

Roger.
