How Many Nuclear Scientists Does It Take…

… to change a light bulb?

I do not know precisely, but there’s a clue in today’s history.

Today in 1951, the “EBR-1” in Arco, Idaho, became the first nuclear power plant to generate electricity. The electricity produced powered four – count ‘em! – four light bulbs.

Songwriter Paul Francis Webster was born today in 1907. Mr. Webster gave us “The Shadow of Your Smile”, “I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good”, the lyrics to one of my favorite Hoagy Carmichael tunes; “Baltimore Oriole”, and the theme song for television’s “Maverick”. I thought Maverick was pretty cool. We’ll toast Mr. Webster with a;

Maverick Cocktail

1 ½ oz. Opulent Vodka

½ oz. Triple Sec

½ oz. Amaretto

1 oz. Pineapple Juice

2 tsp. Galliano

Shake ingredients with ice.

Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

What’s that you’ve got up your sleeve there, podner?

Cheers!
