Fireballs & Flying Bicycles!

We need to make a sci-fi thriller with today’s events.

Here’s the title; “The Kecksburg UFO Event”

Here’s the story. Today in 1965, a fireball was seen from Michigan to Pennsylvania. Witnesses reported something crashing in the woods near Pittsburgh. Forty years later, in 2005, NASA admits it examined the object. 40 years later? What was it? Inquiring minds want to know!

Here’s the cast of our flick. All these actors were born today.

Lee J. Cobb (1911) could play the evil military/security guy and John Cassavetes (1929) his murderous lackey. Hermione Gingold (1896) would play the garrulous eyewitness. Judi Dench (1934) would play the surprising resourceful small-town mayor of Kecksburg. She would be assisted by our hero, Kirk Douglas (1916), a high-integrity NASA investigator with mean right hook. John Malkovich (1953) would play the alien, if alien there be and Margaret Hamilton (1902) would play the fireball, blazing across the night sky on her bicycle from “The Wizard of Oz.” Whatta show! What a show!

There is more to celebrate today.

Today in 1962 the Petrified Forest National Park was established in Arizona. Duke Mantee would be so proud.

It’s Independence Day in Tanganyika. Don’t you just like saying “Tanganyika”?

It’s Anna’s Day in Sweden which celebrates all people named “Anna”. You think I made that one up, don’t you? Nope. It’s for real.

There are other birthdays.

–          Clarence Birdseye, the king of frozen food, was born today in 1886.

–          One of my favorite singer/songwriters, Billy Edd Wheeler, likewise in 1932. (sing along) “They passed an ordinance in the town. Said we’d have to tear it down. That little brown shack out back so dear to me.”

–          Today is the birthday of the very moving singer, Joan Armatrading in 1950.

–          Funny men Redd Foxx (1922) and Emmett Kelly (1898) share this birth date.

–          Captivating violinist Joshua Bell was born today in 1967.

Drink 4cast 4 2day.

Today is the birthday of Dan Hicks in 1941. Mr. Hicks is the front man for Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. Swing music comes alive when these folk play. I’m a fan. He’s the “Walking One and Only”.

Hot Lick Shooter

1 oz. Sambuca

Pour the sambuca into a shot glass and place in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. Shoot.

Watch out for fireballs!

Cheers!
