A New Barn Has Been Raised!

It’s in Danville. It opened last night . It’s the prettiest Liquor Barn ever.

The official ribbon-cutting will be Monday morning at 11:00, but if you’d like a sneak preview, come on in!

Today is the day we first heard “STELLA!!!” wailed by Marlon Brando.

It was opening night on Broadway for Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire”. The year was 1947. Sometimes I play the game of “Would I have liked to have been there then?” The answer for this event is a “YES!!!” as big as Stanley Kowalski’s “STELLA!!!”

Another of my favorite things happened today. The Beatles’ “Rubber Soul” was released in 1965. I was there for that!

One of my very favorite writers was born today in 1857. Joseph Conrad gave us LORD JIM, HEART OF DARKNESS, THE SECRET AGENT and NOSTROMO. I’m always amazed when a writer writes well in his/her second language. English was actually Mr. Conrad’s third language. Wow!

It’s a day full of my favorite things it seems. One of my favorite film composers, Nino Rota, was born today in 1911. Mr. Rota gave us the beautiful scores for “The Godfather” and “La Strada”.

There’s a little bit more.

–          Modern neon lighting was first demonstrated by Georges Claude at the Paris Motor Show today in 1910.

–          Film director Jean-Luc Godard (1930) shares this birthday with two actors; Daryl Hannah (1960) and Brendan Fraser (1968)

Drink 4cast 4 2day

I kinda like neon signs. Since it’s their birthday, let’s make today’s recipe be for a;

Neon Cocktail

1 oz. Citron Vodka

1 oz. Blue Curacao Liqueur

1 oz. Lime Juice

1 splash Pineapple Juice

Shake ingredients together with ice.

Strain into a cocktail glass.

“I’ve always depended on the kindness of strangers.”

Cheers!
