Part of the Original Crowd!

There’s a small moment to celebrate today;

William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway paid a bond for their marriage license today in 1582.

And a slow moment to celebrate as well;

Today in 1895, the first American automobile race took place over the 54 miles from Chicago’s Jackson Park to Evanston, Illinois. Frank Duryea won. The race took ten hours to complete. Woooosh!

And not to neglect;

It’s Independence Day yet again; this time in Albania, Mauritania and Panama. Let’s hope Albania doesn’t declare war. 200 points awarded if you know what that’s from.

Yes! We have birthdays, as well!

–          Actor Hope Lange was born today in 1933.

–          Today is also the birthday of poet William Blake in 1757. “Tiger, Tiger…”

–          Fleet pass receiver Paul Warfield (1942) shares this birthday with America’s most reliable newscaster Jon Stewart (1962). Well…maybe…not so much.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

Songwriter/singer Randy Newman was born today in 1943. I am a huge fan. It’s difficult to pick my favorite from his songs.

One day it might be his love song to Cleveland’s Cayahoga River; “The Lord can make you tumble. The Lord can make you turn. The Lord can make you overflow, but the Lord can’t make you burn.”

The next day it’s “I Love to See You Smile”, or “Davy, the Fat Boy”, or “Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear”, or…you get the idea.

But most often, it’s his ridiculous and wonderful jingle for Dr. Pepper. Thus, I offer you a;

Southern Dr. Pepper Cocktail

2 oz. Vanilla Vodka

2 oz. Southern Comfort Peach

4-6 oz. Dr. Pepper.

Pour the peach and vodka over ice.

Stir by pouring in the Dr. Pepper.

(sing it!) “Wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper too?”
