Half the Trick to Being Happy…

…is knowin’ when you are.

I don’t know who originally said that, but I believe it to be true.

I get to go to work every day in the Liquor Barn. It’s hard not be happy about that.

I get to live in one of the “beautiful places” on the planet. Ditto.

I get to go home to an enveloping, developing love that never accepts anything less than my best and sustains me at my worst. Double ditto.

For all this…and is much…I give thanks today.

But there’s more to celebrate today!

Today in 1835 the Texas Provincial Government authorized the creation of a horse-mounted police force called the Texas Rangers. At that point a gazillion cowboy movies and one pretty good baseball team became possible.

The musical “Guys and Dolls” opened on Broadway today in 1950. “What’s playin’ at the Roxy?”

Birthdays that caught my eye;

–          Kentucky’s own President, Zachary Taylor (1784) and Vice-President, Alben W. Barkley (1877) were both born today.

–          “Canon”-making composer Charles Theodore Pachelbel (1690) and ragtime composer Scott Joplin (1868) share this birthday.

–          Jazzman Teddy Wilson (1912), artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1806), and the inventor of rugby, William Webb Ellis (1806) were all born today.

–          Super-scoring point guard Oscar Robertson was born today in 1938.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

I’m going back to Scott Joplin for this one.

Rag Cocktail

2/3 oz. Citrus Vodka

2/3 oz. Pisang Ambon

2/3 oz. Blue Curacao

Red Bull

Club Soda

Fill a highball glass with ice.

Add the vodka, Pisang Ambon and blue curacao.

Nearly fill with Red Bull and add a splash of club soda.

Garnish with a slice of lime.

Be happy and thankful and watch football (rugby’s probably not on TV).
