Shipwrecked in Texas?

You just don’t think something like that could happen, do you?

But it did! Today in 1528 Spanish conquistador Alvar Nunez de Vaca found himself shipwrecked in Texas. Sounds like a Jimmy Buffett song doesn’t it? I’m guessing Alvar found little solace in the fact that this misfortune made him the first European to set foot in Texas.

Maybe we can provide a different kind of solace by making this our Drink 4cast 4 2day.

Shipwreck Cocktail

2 oz. Orange Juice

2 oz. Pineapple Juice

½ oz. Grenadine

½ oz. Ron Diaz Coconut Rum

½ oz. Midori Melon Liqueur

Fill shaker with crushed ice.

Add ingredients (except grenadine).

Shake and strain into a glass.

Add grenadine.

Scan the horizon for sails!

What else is worth celebrating today?

–         Today in 1947 marked the television debut of “Meet the Press”.

–         It’s Constitution Day in Tajikistan, Tatarstan and the Dominican Republic.

And there are birthdays;

–         These guys were meant for each other. Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, was born today in 1814 and John Philip Sousa, who put that instrument to good use in 4/4 time, was also born today in 1854.

–         Actor Sally Field (my favorite Gidget) was born today in 1946.

–         The sports world today gives us basketball inventor James Naismith (1861) and baseball’s “Big Train” Walter Johnson (1887).

Cheers!
