Swingin’ With Midori…or Not!

What happened today?

–         Today in 1938, the Archbishop of Dubuque denounced swing music as “a degenerated music system…turned loose to gnaw away at the moral fiber of young people”, warning also that it leads down a “primrose path to hell.” Man…that’s harsh…but a nice turn of phrase. Sounds like “Footloose.”

–         The army of Henry V of England defeated the French at the Battle of Agincourt today in 1415. I have been there several times, thanks to Mr. Shakespeare’s play; “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers…”

–         I’m jonesin’ for some turkey. Let’s celebrate that it’s Thanksgiving Day in Grenada.

Birthdays that caught my eye;

–         Composer Georges Bizet was born today in 1838. Carmen is certainly happy for that!

–         Character actor Leo G. Carroll (1886) shares this birthday with film director Abel Gance (1889).

–         Kentucky basketball legend Dan Issel (1948) and Indiana basketball legend Bobby Knight (1940) were both born today.

–         Today’s the birthday of Broadway star Barbara Cook (1927) and country music comedienne Minnie Pearl (1912). “How-deeee! I’m so glad to see ya!”

–         Pablo Picasso (1881) was born today, as was Bobby Thomson (1923) slugger of “the shot heard round the world” in baseball.
