We Could Put on a Show!

We could you know.

There’s a remarkable array of acting talents in today’s birthday celebrators. If we had’em all together…wow! We could use your garage and my mom could make the costumes, and…

Here’s our cast – all born today;

–         Jeff Goldblum was born today in 1952 so the giant insect role is taken.”Be afraid…be very afraid.”

–         Annette Funicello (1942), Catherine Deneuve (1943) and Constance Bennett (1904) could be our damsels in distress.

–         Sarah Bernhardt (1844) and Derek Jacobi (1938) could play the wise adults who save the day and Curly Howard (1903) of the Three Stooges could provide the comic relief.

–         We’ll get Franz Liszt (1811) to write the score and Robert Rauschenberg (1925) to make the posters.

It sounds great!

Today is also the birthday of Kentucky’s great pioneer, Daniel Boone (1734) and baseball slugger Jimmie Fox (1907), but I couldn’t figure how to get them in the show.

Lots of other things happened today.

–         The Great Anticipation was today in 1844. Millerites, followers of William Miller eagerly anticipated the end of the world (I seem to have heard this song before). The following day became known as the Great Disappointment. I did not make this up–I’d be inordinately proud of it if I did, but I didn’t.

–         Sam Houston was inaugurated as the first President of the Republic of Texas today in 1836. President…Texas…I also seem to have heard this song before.

–         Today in 1883, the Metropolitan Opera House opened with a performance of Gounod’s “Faust”. No, I was not there.

–         On this day in 1964, the Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded to Jean-Paul Sartre, but he turned down the honor. How do you say; “contrary cuss” in French?

–         Russia founded a colony on Kodiak Island, Alaska today in 1784. They were hoping to flip it for a quick profit.

I’m going back to one of the stars of our birthday show for our daily libation.

    Hilarious! That is quite the cocktail…need to contact a couple of college students I know to try it…I am way to old for the adventure that will inevitably follow.
