Kentucky’s Newest Winemaker!

First, I’d like to suggest that we celebrate the arrival of Kentucky’s newest winemaker at what is probably Kentucky’s newest winery. Lisa Wicker has come on board as winemaker at Alex Ackermann’s Green Acres Winery in Lebanon. Ladies, we are expecting great things!

What else can we celebrate today?

Well there are things that make you go hmmmm;

Today in 1822, Jean-Francois Champollion announced he had deciphered the Rosetta Stone. According to Jean-Francois, it read; “Drink your Ovaltine.”

Lancaster, Pennsylvania was the capital of the United States today (and only today) in 1777. Do you suppose it a case of buyer’s remorse?

Today in 1954 featured the nationwide debut of the television show “Tonight” (later “The Tonight Show”) hosted by Steve Allen on NBC. I was not his first guest. Go figure.

And things that make you go ZZZZZZZZ;

On this day in 1905, the physics journal “”Annalen der Physik” published Albert Einstein’s paper; “Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?” introducing the equation; E=mc squared. Catchy title, no? It was later turned into a musical.

It’s World Tourism Day!

Several birthdays of interest;

–         Actors Wilfrid Brimley (1934) and Gwyneth Paltrow (1972) were born today.

–         Jazz pianist Bud Powell (1924) could accompany rocker Meat Loaf (1947) in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday to You”.

–         Noir writer Jim Thompson (1906) shares this birthday with magician Harry Blackstone, Sr.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

I know you thought I missed the key birthday of this date, but no, I was saving it for today’s drink recommendation.

Ermentrude of Orleans, consort of Charles the Bald, was born this day in 823. I know you think I make these things up, but you’d be wrong about that. Let’s toast them with a glass of Bald Peak Cabernet Sauvignon. It was just too good to pass up.

Who loves ya baby?

Cheers!

Roger
