Gif Me a Visky…And Don’t Be Stingy, Baby!

That was Greta Garbo’s famous first line in a talking motion picture. Her first “talkie” was such a big event it was promoted with just two words; “Garbo Talks!” The film was “Anna Christie”. Ms. Garbo was born today in 1905.

Let’s celebrate with our Drink 4cast 4 2day;

Garbo Cocktail

1 oz. Brandy

1 oz. Dry Vermouth

1 oz. Orange Juice

¼ oz. Grenadine

1 dash of White Crème de Menthe

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.

Shake well.

Strain into a chilled highball glass.

You probably won’t “vant to be alone.”

What else happened today?

–         Well, in 1870 Old Faithful Geyser was observed and named by Henry D. Washburn during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition to Yellowstone. I just glad they didn’t name it the Washburn-Langford-Doane Geyser!

–         The Royal Opera House in London opened today in 1809.

–         The first cornerstone of the Capitol Building was laid today by George Washington in 1793.

–         Fritz Pollard became the first African-American to play professional football for a major team (the Akron Pro’s) today in 1919.

–         Daniel David Palmer gave the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895. I wonder…did he mean to or was he just jerkin’ somebody around?

–         It’s a big day for New York City. The New York Daily Times was published for the first time in 1851. It later became the New York Times.

–         And, Tiffany and Company was founded today in 1839.

Whew! Plus we have birthdays.

–         R-r-r-r-r-rick Pitino, love him or hate him…he’s ours now Kentucky, was born today in 1952.

–         Actor Tara Fitzgerald (1967) and clever jazz man Michael Franks (1944) share this birthday.

And finally…

It’s World Water Monitoring Day…whatever that is. Do you suppose they’re celebrating it by monitoring Old Faithful today?

Maybe you better “gif me that vhisky” now.

Cheers,

Roger
