“O for a Muse of Fire!”…Or Some 151 Rum

Happenings that happened to catch my eye today;

–         Today in 1630, the Massachusetts village of Shawmut changed its name to Boston. Aren’t we all glad? Imagine the introduction; “Starting at point guard for the Shawmut Celtics…” Not right.

–         General Motors (1908) was founded today and the American Legion (1919) was incorporated.

–         The Metropolitan Opera House opened at Lincoln Center in New York City today in 1966 with the world premiere of Samuel Barber’s opera, “Antony and Cleopatra”.

Yes, since you asked, it is Independence Day in Mexico and Papua New Guinea.

Lots of birthdays;

–         An old retailer like me would have to honor the birthday of James C. Penney in 1875.

–         Today, “It’s good to be the king!” – When is it not? King Henry V of England (1386) and bluesman B. B. King (1925) were both born today.

–         Actors Lauren Bacall (1924), Amy Poehler (1971), Peter Falk (1927) and Anne Francis (1930) were all born today.

One last birthday for our Drink 4cast 4 2day.

Children’s writer H. A. Rey was born today in 1898. Mr. Rey gave us CURIOUS GEORGE. We’ll give him a;

Curious George Cocktail

1 ½ oz. Banana Liqueur

1 oz. Crème de Cacao

¾ oz. Ron Diaz 151 Rum

Red Bull

Mix banana liqueur, crème de cacao and 151 rum in a shaker.

Shake well and strain into an iced lowball glass.

Top with Red Bull.

“Once more into the breach!”

Cheers!
