I Need More Candles!

There’s too many birthdays today!

–         Actors Shirley Booth (1898), Fred MacMurray (1908), Cameron Diaz (1972), Joan Blondell (1906) and Raymond Massey (1896) were all born today. What show that would be.

–         Baseball greats Ted Williams (1918) and Tug McGraw (1944) share this birthday. McGraw claimed his fastball was a “Peggy Lee” fastball. He would throw it and the batters would say; “Is that all there is?”

–         Today is also the birthday of the creator of FRANKENSTEIN, Mary Wollstonecroft Shelley in 1797. “It’s alive!”

–         Wait, there’s more! Gazillionaire Warren Buffett (1930) was born today, as was opera’s mezzo-soprano Regina Resnik in 1922.

It was also the birthday of English brewer Samuel Whitbread in 1720.

I’d like to make our Drink 4cast 4 2day any of the Whitbread brews but they aren’t currently in the market. So… let’s hoist a SAMUEL Smith brew instead.

There’s even more to celebrate today;

–         Thurgood Marshall was confirmed as the first African-American Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States on this day in 1967.

–         It’s a big birthday for cities. Melbourne, Australia (1835) and Houston, Texas (1836) were both founded today.

–         Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited” was released this day in 1965.

Whatta day!

Cheers,

Roger

8/30/11.
