I Still Have That Dream

Today in 1963, 200,000 people in Washington, DC watched and listened as Rev. Martin Luther King told of his “dream”. Millions more watched and listened on TV…I was one of those. It was a transforming moment for me and the nation. I will be celebrating Rev. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech today and hoping that I and our nation can recapture some of that energy and ideal.

We can also celebrate some other interesting happenings.

–         Today in 1937, Toyota Motors became an independent company. I suspect there are more than few Toyota employees in Central Kentucky that will be thankful for that.

–         Also today in 1898, Charles Bradham renamed his carbonated soft drink “Pepsi-Cola”. What could he have been thinking – that name’ll never sell.

We have birthdays!

–         Operatic tenor Richard Tucker (1913) shares this birthday with country singer Shania Twain (1965).

–         Captain America illustrator Jack Kirby (1917), baseball great and bane of umpires Lou Piniella (1943) and actor Ben Gazzara (1930) were also born on this day.

Drink 4cast 4 2day

Today in 1961, Motown Records released “Please Mister Postman” by the Marvelettes. It would go on to be Motown’s first number one hit. Thus, I give you;

Postman Cocktail

2 oz. Grays Peak Vodka

1 oz. cranberry juice

1 splash grenadine

2 oz. orange juice

Pour ingredients into a shaker with ice.

Shake well and strain into a highball glass over ice.

Ring twice!

Cheers,

Roger
