Brew at the Zoo & Wine Too!

3,000 beer-lovers will be converging on the Louisville Zoo this afternoon and evening for “Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too!” Liquor Barn volunteers will be on hand to talk about the beers and wines being tasted. The weather looks perfect for the event. Congratulations to all involved!

As if that wasn’t enough to celebrate;

It’s Independence Day in Moldova. I think I might have one sparkler left.

And there are birthdays;

–         Comic actor Martha Raye was born today in 1916.

–         Rolls-Royce co-founder Charles Rolls (1877) shares the birthday with the author of ROSEMARY’S BABY, Ira Levin (1929). I’ve never eaten pea soup since.

–         The “Prez” of the saxophone, Lester Young, was born this day in 1909. I seriously cannot begin to tell you how happy I am about that!

Our “Drink 4cast 4 2day”;

Will commemorate the shortest war in history. The Anglo-Zanzibar War between the United Kingdom and Zanzibar lasted from 9-9:45am this day in 1896. I was going to attend but I got caught in traffic.

Zanzibar Cocktail

Several dashes of Angostura Bitters

¾ oz. lemon juice

2-3 oz. Dry Vermouth

1 oz. Greenall’s Gin

1 tsp. sugar syrup

Lemon peel

Pour the ingredients into a shaker with cracked ice.

Shake well and strain into a hurricane glass.

Twist the lemon peel over the drink and drop it into the glass.

Don’t blink or you’ll miss it!

Cheers,

Roger.
