Big Islands, Little Islands & the 3-Acre Wood

Two Louisville-area wineries gathered gold medals at the Kentucky State Fair last week!

Milla Nova Winery won gold for their Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio and Wight Meyer Winery was awarded a gold medal for their Chambourcin. Milla Nova is a fairly new winery, but Jim Wight of Wight Meyer has worked long and hard to get to the point where he’s become one of the benchmarks of Kentucky wine. His wines are HIS wines and they help point the way for all the new wineries springing up in our state. Congratulations my friend!

Today we can also celebrate;

–         The claiming on this day in 1770 of eastern Australian for Great Britain by James Cook. He named it New South Wales. Well, obviously that name had to change. It was clearly Australia all along.

–         Hawaii (a smaller island I’m told) was added as the 50th state in the union by President Dwight D. Eisenhauer this day in 1888. He named it correctly first try.

Amazing talents have birthdays today;

–         Speaking of Australia, film director Peter Weir was born this day in 1944.

–         Kentucky’s own singer/songwriter Jackie DeShannon (1944) shares this birthday with a big big guy, Wilt Chamberlain (1936).

–         Jazz greats Count Basie (1904) and Art Farmer (1928) were both born today.

…As was our “Drink 4cast 4 2day” inspiration.

Today’s the birthday of Christopher Robin Milne (1920). Young Mr. Milne was the inspiration for the Winnie the Pooh stories by A. A. Milne. So…unless you have a honey jar stuck on your nose try this;

Winnie the Pooh Cocktail

2 tsp. honey

3 oz. lemonade

1 oz Crème de Cacao

Celery salt

Pour ingredients into a cocktail glass with ice. Stir and serve.

“Hmmmm…time for a little something.”
