Start Your Engines! What? No Engines?

On this day in 1934, the first All-American Soap Box Derby was held in Dayton, Ohio. No, I was not there.

It’s also National Aviation Day and a great chance to honor the birthday of Orville Wright (1871). Mr. Wright, like the Soap Box Derby was also from Dayton. Surely there are parades in Dayton today even as we speak.

We have more Kentucky wine triumphs to celebrate;

Our friends Katherine and Lowell Land in Richmond walked away from the Kentucky State Fair with a Gold Medal for their Acres of Land Vignoles. I’m sure Lowell taught the judges how to pronounce the wine before they announced the wine. Congratulations Katherine and Lowell.

There are birthdays today;

–         Poet Ogden Nash (1902) shares this birthday with former President Bill Clinton (1946).

–         Actor Olga Baclanova was born today in 1896. Ms. Baclanova is best known for her hateful role in the remarkable film “Freaks”. “Gobbo Geebo, Gobbo Geebo, now we make you one of us!”

Another birthday is the source of our “Drink 4cast 4 2day”.

Gene Roddenberry was born this day in 1921. Mr. Roddenberry was the enlightened TV producer who first brought us “Star Trek”. Now, that’s worth celebrating with an;

Aldebaran Whiskey Cocktail

4 oz. Green Gatorade

4 oz. Ginger Ale

1 oz. Hancock’s Bourbon

Pour the ingredients into a tall glass, stir and serve.

“Bravely go where no man has gone before.”

Cheers,

Roger
