Bambi, Big Balloons & Tiny Bubbles

What would “Led” be without zeppelins?

What would the opening of Monty Python be without…zeppelins??

Just wrong.

And that’s why we should celebrate today. Today in 1889, German Ferdinand von Zeppelin patented his Navigable Balloon.

Our “Drink 4cast 4 2day” is all over it!

Zeppelin Cocktail

2 oz. Godiva Liqueur

2 oz. Grenadine

1 oz. Southern Comfort

Combine the ingredients in an old-fashioned glass and consider “buying South Malden”.

“And now for something completely different…”

–         Today is International Lefthanders Day…but, I suppose, you have to be an international lefthander to celebrate.

–         In 1918, women enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for the first time. Opha Mae Johnson was the first woman to do so.

–         On this day in 1942, Walt Disney’s “Bambi” premiered at Radio City Music Hall. A few minutes later, Godzilla appeared and flattened the building while humming “Afternoon of a Faun”.

We have birthdays;

–         Bert Lahr (1895), of Cowardly Lion fame shares this birthday with sharpshooter Annie Oakley (1860).

–         At the piano today are birthday boys George Shearing (1919) and Don Ho (1930)…tiny bubbles…in the wine…

–         Opera star Kathleen Battle (1948) and master of the film macabre Alfred Hitchcock (1899) were also born this day. “Good evening.”

Cheers,

Roger
