Betty Boop, Young Punks & Passion!

Passion Has Red Lips 2010!

No, this is not an erotic epiphany…sigh. It’s a new wine arrival from Australia. It’s a cabernet/shiraz blend from Some Young Punks. These wines seem to have been ripped from the pages of lurid pulp fiction paperbacks. Passion Has Red Lips is described; “Turn, splash and savour. Unfiltered confessions follow as the sin glows red and passionate like those lips.” I think a very hot summer just got hotter! I’ve not yet tried the wines, but the website is a stunner (

Way too much gloomy news yesterday; let’s find something to celebrate today!

–         I hereby declare today Italian Religious Building Day. The Sistine Chapel opened today in 1483 and;

–         On this day in 1173, construction on the Campanile of the Cathedral of Pisa (now known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa) began. Obviously, this would have been a good day to check those site plans one more time.

–         Henry David Thoreau published WALDEN today in 1854. “Simplify, simplify, simplify”.

–         In 1979, Brighton became the first major resort in Britain to agree to set aside part of its seafront for nudists. A thousand comments sprrrrringgg to my lips! All of which will remain right there.

As if that wasn’t enough, today is Frank Zappa Day in Baltimore! Mr. Zappa, of course, made it clear to all of us that “Brown shoes don’t make it.” Where would we be…

We have interesting birthdays today.

–         Sprinter Tyson Gay (Kentucky’s own) was born today in 1982.

–         Lots of actors born today; Melanie Griffith (1957), Audrey Tatou (1978) and Sam Elliott (1944).

–         AND today’s the birthday of Smokey the Bear. “Only you can prevent forest fires.”

Our “Drink 4cast 4 2day” is for Betty Boop.

Ms. Boop made her cartoon debut today in 1930 in “Dizzy Dishes”.
