Splainin’ About Skinny Girl

Skinny Girl Margarita fans! Listen up!

I’m at our Beaumont store today and I saw a product on the shelf that I’ve been anticipating for a couple of months. It’s a margarita mix that features zero carbs and zero sugar. If you’ve been drinking Skinny Girl Pre-mixed Margarita, Scales Margarita Mix will let you add the tequila of your choice and still enjoy the dietary attractions of Skinny Girl. This should be a big hit.

On the other dietary side of new things at the Barn; Gringo Jack’s Tortilla Chips have arrived! These chips “don’t need no stinkin’ zero carbs”. They just taste great. They will make your salsa dance!

What shall we celebrate today?

It’s a big day for travelin’ women;

–         In 1909 Alice Huyler Ramsey and three friends became the first women to complete a transcontinental automobile trip. I’ll bet they stopped at every Cracker Barrel on the way.

–         Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926.

The Russian Geographical Society was founded this day in 1845. If they had only produced a cool magazine we might have cared.

On this day in 1991, Tim Berner-Lee released files describing his idea for the World Wide Web. WWW debuts as a publicly available service on the internet. I guess he just beat out Al Gore.

The Beatles’ album (remember those?) “Help” was released in 1965.

And it’s Independence Day in Jamaica and Bolivia. Firecrackers and steel drums at the ready!

There are birthdays!

–         Artist Andy Warhol was born today in 1928 though his 15 minutes of fame would come much later.

–         Action film queen Michelle Yeoh (1962) shares the day with comedy queen Lucille Ball (1911) – ya gotta love her.

–         Perpetually smoldering actor Robert Mitchum (1917) was born today as was cowboy actor Hoot Gibson (1892).

I’m gonna cheat on the “Cocktail 4 2day”.

I love cowboy flicks, so I’m making today’s drink recipe a nod to “Hoot” Gibson. Yes, there is a cocktail named “Gibson”, but this one sounds like more fun.

Hoot Mon Cocktail

1 ½ oz.  Johnnie Walker Red Scotch

¾ oz. Sweet Vermouth

1 tsp. Benedictine

Pour the scotch, vermouth and Benedictine in a mixing glass half-filled with cracked ice. Stir well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel and serve.

Now for those reruns…”Lucy, you got some ‘splainin’ to do.”
