Changing the World With Electricity

Today’s a big day communications;

–         In 1837 the first commercial use of the electric telegraph was demonstrated by William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone between Euston and Camden Town in London and

–         On this same day in 1920 the first transatlantic two-way radio broadcast occurred.

This was also the day in 1965 that Bob Dylan plugged in his electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival. He was booed from the stage and the world as we knew it changed forever.

We have birthdays!

–         Artists Thomas Eakins (1844) and Maxfield Parrish (1870) were born this day.

–         Football Hall-of-Famer Walter Peyton (1954) shares this birth date with actor Walter Brennan (1894).

–         Jazz singer Annie Ross (“Twisted”) was born this day in 1930.

Our “Cocktail 4 2day” is to commemorate the fact that

On this day in 1946 Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin staged their first show together as a comedy team at Club 500 in Atlantic City, New Jersey (no, I was not there).
