Masks and Moscato

I’m at our Hamburg store today and was walking the wine aisles and chatting with Russ Faulconer, fount of all wisdom that is wine. He mentioned that moscatos continue to be the hottest selling wines on these hot days and that the newest entry in that category arrived just this morning; Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Moscato. He expects it to be a much sought-after item. You can say you heard it here first.

What are we celebrating today?

Today’s the birthday of songbird Linda Ronstadt (1946), actor Forest Whitaker (1961) and Rembrandt (the painter – not the toothpaste) (1606).

I thought about making the Cocktail 4 2day something “on the rocks” to commemorate the discovery of the Rosetta Stone in Egypt on this day in 1799.

But no.

Today’s also another big day for professional wrestlers. It’s the birthday of Jesse Ventura (1951) and…wait for it…Mil Mascaras, the Masked Mexican Wrestler, sometimes known as “The Man of a Thousand Masks”. How can you pass that up? Another word for these mysterious athletes is “luchador”. Thus…

Our Cocktail 4 2day;

Luchador Cocktail Recipe

1 (12 ounce) pilsner-style Mexican beer, such as Modelo or Bohemia

2 oz. Clamato Juice

1 oz. lime juice

3 dashes hot sauce

1 pinch cumin seeds

1 pinch freshly ground black pepper

1 pinch kosher salt

Ice

  1. Pour beer into a frozen pint glass.
  2. Combine the remaining ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake vigorously, strain over beer, stir and serve.

Ole! And who is that masked man?

Roger.
