Sample Brown Ales @ Liquor Barns Buy a Try Beer Sessions: August 26, 27 ,28
All Liquor Barns will be sampling four Brown Ales on Thrusday and Friday from 5 to 7 pm, and Saturday, August 28 from 3 to 6 pm. Our “Buy a Try” beer menu will feature Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale, Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale, Avery Ellie’s Brown Ale, and Abita Turbodog samples for 50 cents each.

Brown ales or lagers are beers that are heavier on malt than hops.  American Brown Ales usually have a higher hop characteristic than English Brown Ales.  They generally have a nutty or caramel flavor with hints of chocolate, toast, or toffee and are dark in color but most often are medium in body.
This week’s “Buy a Try” beer tasting notes:
Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale Tastes of hazelnuts are balanced out with roasted malts then finished with a soft English hop bitterness.  Aroma is somewhat sweet with hints of darks fruits.  Brewed in Tadcaster, England.  5% abv.
Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale An extremely hoppy and malty brown ale, it is brewed with aromatic barley and caramelized brown sugar.  Big in body and flavor.  Hints of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits with hops on the finish.  Brewed in Milton, DE.  7.2% abv.
Avery Ellie’s Brown Ale Named after the head-brewer’s Chocolate Labrador, this medium-bodied brown ale has flavors of chocolate, vanilla, roasted nuts, and sweet brown sugar.  The three varieties of hops give this brown ale a slight bitter finish.  Brewed in Boulder, CO.  5.8% abv.
Abita Turbodog An English Style Brown Ale, it’s a rich and flavorful creamy dark beer with sweet, roasted flavors of toffee, nuts and chocolate.  The piney, hop character gives this beer a smooth, yet slightly bitter finish.  Brewed in Abita Springs, LA.  5.6% abv.
Suggested Food Pairing: Since Brown Ales are dark and rich with flavor they match up nicely with red meat (BBQ, smoked meats, duck, ribs, venison, prosciutto, stews), Soups (Beef Vegetable), Salads (green salad with vinaigrette dressing), Cheeses (Camembert, Stilton, Fontina, Asiago, Colby, Parmesan), and Desserts (chocolate, pie, ice cream, etc.)
