In a big, big way!
Today in 2011, the Eyjafjallajokul (say that three times real fast!) Volcano in Iceland erupted, sending out a plume of ash that led most northern European countries to close their airspace between April 15 and 20, grounding about 10 million travelers worldwide. I understand the folks stranded in Paris weren’t all that upset. Go figure.
It’s New Year’s Day…
…in Assam, Bengal, Burma, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Pujab, and Laos. None of those people know what “Auld Lang Syne” means either.
We have several creative birthdays today.
- Master actor Sir John Gielgud was born today in 1904.
- The “Boss” of the tenor saxophone, Gene Ammons was born today in 1925.
- Mr. Ammons could play a mean duet with trumpeter Shorty Rogers, also born today in 1924.
